"This is a story about a unique building built for an exceptional client by one of the most influential architects during a highly significant time in European history.
The story was motivated by my personal connection with the Tugendhat house which may have inspired me to become an architect. It is also the story of my family’s connection with the house in the early 1930s when it was built. Since it was built, almost 100 years ago, it has only been occupied as a ‘house’ for 7 years. It is now a World Heritage monument.
The story is about the architect, Mies van de Rohe, the client, Greta Tugendhat and the period of intensive creativity in the arts just before National Socialism.
The story is about the house itself and why I believe that nothing like it has ever been built before and probably will never be built in the future."
